The cast of The Kids in the Hall have finally started production on their rebooted sketch-comedy series in Toronto.

Kevin McDonald, Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney and Scott Thompson posted a photo of themselves on the set via the group’s official Twitter account. They were all smiles as they posed in a brick-lined stairway, wearing street clothes rather than costumes.

“We’ve started filming brand new episodes for The Kids in the Hall’s 8-episode Amazon Original series in Toronto!” reads the post, which now has over 5,000 likes and 1,000 retweets.

Fans were quick to reference classic Kids in the Hall bits in their enthusiasm.

“Yaaaaay!! I’m currently crushing your heads in celebration!” one wrote, channelling the character Mr. Tyzik, who used forced perspective to seemingly squeeze his nemeses’ heads between his thumb and forefinger.

“30 Helens agree, the return of @KITHOnline is exciting,” wrote another, winking at the sketch in which 30 women named Helen stood in a field and chanted various things on which they came to a consensus.

Amazon first announced the Kids in the Hall reboot in March 2020, but production stalled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Then, this past April, Foley shared a photo from the airport on his way to start work on the series.

The Kids in the Hall aired five seasons from 1989 to 1995 on CBC in Canada. It also ran on CBS and HBO in the U.S. In 1996, the group released the film Brain Candy and they reunited in 2010 for the eight-part miniseries Death Comes to Town.

The comedy troupe’s name comes from a bit from comedian Sid Caesar, who had a running gag that any jokes that didn’t perform well were written by “the kids in the hall” — a group of young writers hanging around the studio.
