The winners of the third St. Joseph Foundation of Elliot Lake are Mike and Sam Maslakow.
The couple won $10,325 in the St. Joseph’s Foundation 50/50 Draw for May.
The couple then turned the tables on St. Joseph’s Foundation and donated $6,000 of their winnings for bed replacement fund.
The St. Joseph’s Foundation 50/50 Draw began in March and will continue until February 2022.
The foundation raises money for St. Joseph’s General Hospital in Elliot Lake. Its current fundraiser is aimed at replacing the hospital’s 54 outdated bed units, which includes the beds, bed side tables and over bed tables.
The total cost to replace the 54 beds is $324,000, equal to $6,000 per bed.
William Elliott, chair of the St. Joseph’s Foundation, says the tickets are only available online at www.sjhfound5050.ca . The tickets are 10 for $10, or 40 for $20 or 100 for $40.
“The 100 tickets for $40 is by far the most popular, Elliott explains.
The draws take place on the last day of the month, with the sale for each month ending at midnight on the second last day of the month. The sale for the next draw start on the first day of the month.
The draw for June will be on June 30, with the ticket sales ending on June 29 at midnight.
The winner of the March draw was Danielle Vincent who won $15,760, and the April winner was L. Arseneau with $14,570.
However, the May prize was $10,325, which Elliott believes was lower because of the Internet disruption on the last day of the ticket sales. He adds that many wait until the last day to buy their tickets. As a result, he suspects they lost a few thousand dollars in ticket sales.
The foundation also accepts donations. Those wanting to make a donation to the foundation’s bed replacement fundraiser can make it at the hospital’s business office when it is open to the public again; at the https://www.canadahelps.org website at St. Joseph’s Foundation – Elliot Lake; send a cheque to the hospital, payable to the St. Joseph’s Foundation of Elliot Lake.
Making a donation to the fundraiser will get a charitable tax receipt for income tax purposes.
