According to the City of Greater Sudbury website, the new arena/event centre proposed for the Kingsway Entertainment District will have 5,800 seats as a sporting venue, as well as the capacity of 6,500 seats for concerts.
There will be two exits, with one being secondary. As such, will departing patrons have to inch along to get out while sniffing carbon monoxide for 20 to 25 minutes after a sold-out performance?
If this is the case, goodbye to my Wolves subscription of several years.
No such problem in the Sudbury Arena downtown, as there are several exits and, within a few minutes, everyone is on their way home.
Realistically, an arena belongs downtown, especially when it is surrounded by restaurants and hotels rather than being close to a municipal dump site.
This issue deserves serious consideration (remember Ottawa) and the Sudbury taxpayers should have direct input as they are the ones who will foot the bill … ouch.
