One of the top young football players in Sault Ste. Marie has a commitment to play the sport and attend school at Bishop’s University effective the 2021 season.
Dylan Monico, a 6-foot-3, 325-pound lineman who can play guard and centre, is fresh from three seasons of senior high school football locally with the St. Mary’s Knights. A two-time all star, Monico also won the Gord Hargreaves Award as the high school league’s top lineman a year ago.
He has also played within the Sault Minor Football Association and for the provincial Sault Sabercats program.
In committing to play for Bishop’s, a Canadian university football powerhouse that is located just outside Sherbrooke, Que., the school’s gridiron team made it all the way to the prestigious Churchill Bowl a year ago before losing out.
Young Monico has deep football bloodlines as the son of Jimmy Monico and the grandson of Lenny Monico, who are both long-time pillars of the sport in the Sault.
